Atlanta Peach - September 2006

With new shops and residents - and an ambitious new neighborhood vision - Buckhead Village is not just for night crawlers anymore

Papercity - June 2006

Papercity - June 2006

You know her as the adorable owner of Pieces, the fetching home decor boutique in Buckhead, filled with color-splashed tableaux of quirky funrnishings and accessories in delicious hues: lemon yellow, lime green, aqua blue, and tangerine. Lee Boren's bold signiture styling is part Miami-modern, part old-school Palm Springs and wholly delicious. So, imagine, this style-maker becomes engaged to fellow Atlantan Kevin Kleinhelter and teams up with the equally young, talented and audacious event designer: Tara Guerard of Soiree in Charleston, whose cliche-busting events are defined by creativity and an obsessive attention to detail. The result of these style-setters' collaboration is a playful wedding that's insanely personal, witty, chicly simple and sophisticated as the bride herself. But these clever ideas work for any summer soiree.

When Lee Kleinhelter was a little girl, she was more interested in designing rooms for her dolls than playing with the dolls themselves. As an adult, her passion for the elements of design - line, shape, color, form, texture, contrast - has continued to shape her own interiors. "If a chair has a great shape, it can stand on that alone; it doesn't need strong pattern or interesting texture, too." When Lee and her husband, Kevin, remodeled the master bedroom of his "bachelor pad" after their wedding, Lee chose chocolate brown for their bedroom walls. The dark walls provide a nice contrast to all white furnishings and a treasured pair of vintage lamps that had been for sale in Lee's Buckhead store, Pieces (404-869-2476, piecesinc.com). The lamps had gone out on approval, but Lee was thrilled when they were returned and didn't let them go again. The walls and flooring throughout the rest of the home are white, too, so the bedroom's darker palette gives Lee "a real sense of entering into another space - a warm and cozy place to rest, both physically and mentally." - E.H.

Southern Accents - July 2005

Window Shopping Modern lines, vintage styles, and youthful vibe sum up this new Atlanta shop with attitude.

Pieces

The owner: Lee Boren, whose design background includes working with Atlanta designer Dan Carithers for three years, as well as with Barbara Westbrook and Joye Hirsch.

Named for: The unique objects that Boren finds for the shop. There are no furniture lines here, just individual, exciting pieces.

The style: Clean, sophisticated, and youthful with a Southern California feel. “I wanted it without being an antiques shop,” says Boren. “It appeals to those who appreciate traditional settings and clean-lined furniture.”

Her motivation: I provide a source for furniture and accessories that aren’t always available to the public and display them in a way that’s unexpected,” says Boren. “You don’t have to live in a modern home to appreciate these things.”

The hottest products: Vintage glass lamps, whitewashed gourds, and decorative hand-made shell balls.

We love: Her unusual chairs, particularly the green wicker ones.

What’s in store: “I always have new Jonathan Adler pieces, Kabbalah candles from Slatkin & co., and dog accessories that add to the mix,” she says.

The mascot: Teddy, Boren’s stylish golden retriever.

The address: 3234-A Roswell Rd., 404/869-2476.

Stocked Goods: Pieces is the swank emporium of interior designer Lee Boren- who, coincidentally, is as chic as her store. This Kelly Wearstler-style space balances white walls and floors with the perfect amount of plash from one-of-a-kind furniture and accessories. "I wanted to give this area an option for things that aren't mass produced," Boren says. Check out finds such as Danish walnut desk with a chrome base and cord cube ottomans. But what gives Pieces its fearlessly chic point of view are the curvy vintage French chairs painted white and upholstered in yellow seats and backs, a pair of vintage Knoll bentwood chairs covered in carnation-pink cotton and vintage bright yellow lamps with white shades.

The chic shops of West Buckhead Village have added a new member to their stylish club. Designer Lee boren has opened Pieces, Inc., a vintage furniture boutique in the area. Pieces carries a mixture of old and new, one-of-a-kind items that Boren has refurbished. The furniture is far from traditional, yet not quite modern. The items are clean-lined pieces that beckon back to the style of the 1960’s and 1970’s. “I gravitate towards this style of furnishing because it is something that you don’t find in many places in Atlanta,” states Boren. The showroom at Pieces is clean and serene with white walls and floors that provide crisp modernity and allow the furniture to pop visually.

“I hope that people walk out of my store feeling like they have been exposed to something new,” Boren says. “I want them to be able to see new things and familiar things in a new light.” Boren has worked in interior design since she was in college and has developed her eye for chic furniture while working under well-known designers such as Dan Carithers. “When you work for people who do big projects you gain the confidence it takes to step out and do something like this on your own,” she says of her experience with Carithers. “People have said that we’ve brought a different look to the city,” says Boren. “A customer told me that Atlanta needed a place like this.”

Head  over to Pieces and see what's new.
